Court to pronounce verdict on AAP minister Aman Arora’s conviction stay plea today
Chandigarh: The Sangrur District Court on Wednesday reserved its decision on an application filed by Punjab cabinet minister Aman Arora, seeking a stay on his conviction in a 2008 assault case. The issuance of a stay order is crucial for the minister to retain his membership as an MLA.
Arora, the cabinet minister, filed the appeal. The court, after considering arguments from both sides until around 7.45 pm, has reserved the verdict for January 25.
The day’s proceedings commenced at 10 am. Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and the plaintiff, Rajinder Deepa, were present during the nine-hour hearing. Rajendra Deepa, leaving the court, expressed optimism that truth has triumphed in the past and will prevail in the future.
The Sunam court had sentenced Aman Arora and eight others to two years in jail and fined them Rs 5,000 each in a 15-year-old domestic dispute case. In 2008, Rajinder Deepa, Arora’s brother-in-law, had filed a complaint alleging that Aman Arora and eight others had forcibly entered his house and assaulted him.
