Dal Khalsa submits draft to SGPC for panth-approved rules on jathedar appointments
Amritsar: The Dal Khalsa has submitted a draft to Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami, responding to the SGPC’s call for suggestions to frame panth-certified procedures for the appointment of jathedars of the Takhts.
Party leaders Kanwarpal Singh, Paramjit Singh Mand, Gurnam Singh, Gurwinder Singh Bajwa and Man Singh said the draft was handed over by a three-member delegation of the party.
They expressed hope that Dhami would review the document and initiate immediate steps to complete the task in consultation with Sikh historians and subject matter experts.
Referring to the recent developments, party representatives said the forced retirement of jathedars of Akal Takht Sahib, Takht Damdama Sahib and Takht Kesgarh Sahib last month had deeply hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.
They said the increasing political interference in religious affairs was alarming and termed it a wake-up call for the Sikh principle of Miri-Piri and the integrity of national institutions.
