DC directs School Managements/Principals to ensure compliance with “Safe School Vahan” policy
Jalandhar: To ensure the safety of children commuting in school buses, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal today directed the managements/principals of different schools of the district to strictly follow the ‘Safe School Vahan’ policy. He also issued directions that all the school vehicles should be running on the roads according to the norms of the ‘Safe School Vahan’ policy by May 10.
During a meeting with the representatives of different schools here at the district administrative complex, the deputy commissioner said that the safety of children is the first priority of the district administration and any kind of negligence will be highly unwarranted.
He further said that according to the norms of the ‘Safe School Vahan’ policy, CCTVs must be installed on every vehicle. Likewise, vehicles should have fire extinguishers, deployment of attendants and staff in uniforms, pollution control clearance, contact number of fire station and police, school vehicles should have speed governors, and female students traveling in buses must have female attendants, first aid kits, besides others. Similarly, overloading in school vehicles will also not be tolerated.
Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal directed all the School Managers/Principals to ensure compliance of the policy norms in their respective schools. He said that if there is any deficiency in the school vehicles, it should be removed by May 10. The Deputy Commissioner said that if the schools do not ensure compliance with the rules within the stipulated time, then strict action will be taken against them.
He said that the district administration is continuously spreading awareness about the safe school vahan policy and awareness activities will be conducted in schools in the coming days, in which subject experts will give detailed information about the policy. Secretary Regional Transport Authority Amit Mahajan, RTO Amanpreet Singh were also present on this occasion.
