DC ORDERS EVACUATION OF 50 FLOOD-PRONE VILLAGES IN SHAHKOT AS PREVENTIVE MEASURES

VISITS PREVIOUSLY FLOOD-AFFECTED VILLAGES IN SHAHKOT AND LOHIAN BLOCKS

Jalandhar: In wake of the inclement weather conditions, Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Vishesh Sarangal has asked the Sub Divisional Magistrate Shahkot to get 50 low lying and flood prone villages evacuated as a preventive measure so as to save people living in these villages during the event of floods, if it happens. The DC on Sunday visited the flood-sensitive villages and interacted with the people; he also issued necessary directions to officials to keep a close tab over the water level in the river so that requisite arrangements could be made timely.

Divulging the details, the DC said that the orders have been issued as a preventive measure to ensure safety and security of the population residing in these historically flood-affected villages. He further mentioned that the senior officials of Jalandhar District Administration have been deployed as in-charges in the sub division so that a close tab over the situation could be ensured. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) has been stationed as in-charge of Shahkot Block, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) for Lohian Block, ADC (UD) for Phillaur, and Secretary Zila Parishad would be in-charge for Mehatpur block, he said, adding these officers to remain stationed at their respective blocks to oversee the situation 24X7.

The Deputy Commissioner has asked the Sub Divisional Magistrate Shahkot to get these villages evacuated at the earliest. These villages include Boorewal, Chak Hathiwala, Narangpur, Parjian Khurd, Gehlan, Bhado, Danewal, Baopur, Rametaharpur, Saand, Rampur, Fakhruwal, Sandhawal, Fazalwal, Sahlapur, Aidalpur, Bajwa Kalan, Langewal, Bhoepur, Khammowal, Bahmania, Chak Bahmnia, Taharpur, Rame, Chak Rame, Smailpur, Fatehpur Bhagwa, Chak Gadaripur, Gatti Peer Baksh, Raipur, Jakopur Kalan, Gatti Raipur, Jania Chahal, Jania, Kotha, Chak Budala, Marajwala, Mandi Kasu, Mandi Cohlian, Mandi Sehrian, Gatta Mundi Kasu, Padana, Nasirpur, Mandala, Mandi Kalu, Kutbiwal, Gidderpindi, Yusufpur Alewal, Yusufpur Darewal, and Chak Yusufpur Aalewal.

He further added that the administration has also deployed in-charges for each village to ensure people do not face any problem during the evacuation procedure. He said that the administration was duty-bound to keep people from the floods and necessary preventive measures have already been taken to ensure safety of people. The officials in these locations were asked not to leave their respective stations and keep their mobiles on round the clock so that coordinated efforts could be made if any untoward situation arose.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was keeping a close watch on the entire situation adding that the administration was already geared up to face any unforeseen eventuality. He asked the Sub Divisional Magistrates of Phillaur, Nakodar and Shahkot to be on high alert so that any kind of situation could be handled effectively. Mr. Sarangal said that the SDMs had already identified safer places for movement of people evacuated from these villages.

The Deputy Commissioner said that all requisite arrangements have already been made at these safe places including. He mentioned that the Health department has been asked to keep its health teams ready adding that Powercom has been instructed to gear up for supplying power in proposed relief centres, if the need arises. Similarly, the DC further said that divers have been put on alert so that they could be roped in if needed adding that no stone would be left unturned for extending a helping hand to people during incessant rains. He reiterated that the administration has completed all the preparedness and prevent measures to keep people from the fury of floods, if it happens.
