Defected to BJP before Lok Sabha polls, former AAP MLA Sheetal Angural withdraws his resignation
Jalandhar: In yet another twist a day after the Lok Sabha elections ended, former AAP leader Sheetal Angural, who resigned as the Aam Aadmi Party MLA (West) to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, has requested Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwa to allow him to withdraw his resignation.
Angural, along with Jalandhar MP and AAP’s Jalandhar candidate Sushil Rinku, joined the BJP on March 27 after resigning from the AAP. Both leveled serious allegations against senior AAP leaders after joining the BJP.
Sources said that Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwa received a letter from Angural and has called him for a meeting on June 3. Meanwhile, the AAP will decide on the development, as the anti-defection law will come into effect with his resignation from the AAP party.
It is said that Angural sent a mail to Speaker yesterday requesting him to withdraw his resignation as MLA. He, however, yet not confirmed it.
Earlier, Angural had been involved in various controversies. After defecting to the BJP, pictures surfaced on social media showing him hugging Manish alias Mani Thakur of Jalandhar, an alleged kingpin of a UK-based drug cartel busted by Jalandhar police in March.
He was also booked for gambling, kidnapping, and wrongfully confining a minor. Additionally, he was booked under the Excise Act, Arms Act, and the IT Act in different police stations in Jalandhar and Dera Bassi.
During the assembly elections 2022, he disclosed the Election Commission in his affidavit that there were nine FIRs against him.
