Differences between Akal Takht and Patna Sahib Jathedars remain unresolved

Amritsar: Differences between the Jathedars of Sri Akal Takht and Takht Sri Patna Sahib remain unresolved despite a meeting held in Patna today between a delegation from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the office-bearers of Takht Sri Patna Sahib Prabandhak Committee.

During the meeting, the Takht Sri Patna Sahib committee urged a reconsideration of the order issued by Sri Akal Takht. Jagjot Singh Sohi, president of the Patna Sahib managing committee, said the discussions took place in a cordial atmosphere.

He presented his stance before the SGPC delegation and questioned why the views of the Patna Sahib committee were not heard during the gathering of the Five Singh Sahibans at Sri Akal Takht. He insisted that the Akal Takht’s order should be reviewed.

SGPC member Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, who was part of the visiting delegation, said that differences had surfaced following the Akal Takht’s decision, which had significantly affected the Sikh Sangat. He said the SGPC president, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, had formed a committee to find a resolution through dialogue.

Grewal said the SGPC committee had held multiple meetings with Takht Sri Patna Sahib’s leadership. He added that while the managing committee of Takht Sri Patna Sahib had accepted the decision made by the Panj Pyaras of their Takht, the SGPC delegation disagreed with it and defended the SGPC’s position.

He expressed hope that the ongoing differences would be resolved soon through mutual dialogue.
