Disproportionate assets case: HC denies anticipatory bail to Bharat Inder Chahal
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of former media advisor Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, an accused in a disproportionate assets case.
A bench of Justice Mahabir Singh Sindhu set aside the contention made by Chahal in his bail application that he was of old age and said his custodial interrogation was required to ascertain the source of the alleged assets and for a fair probe.
Chahal had served as the media advisor to the then Chief Minister of Punjab from April 1, 2017 to August 31, 2021.
A case was registered against Chahal under the Prevention of Corruption Act on August 2, 2023, two years after he stepped down.
