Doctors, support staff protest in Punjab, Haryana against Kolkata incident, OPD services suspended
Chandigarh: Doctors today staged protests at several places in Punjab and Haryana against the alleged rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at a government hospital in Kolkata, demanding safety for doctors and other support staff at workplaces.
The protesting doctors said that the services of OPDs remained stalled and some surgeries were not done but emergency services were not affected.
The Indian Medical Association has given a nationwide call for suspension of non-emergency services for 24 hours from 6 am today to protest against the alleged rape and murder and subsequent vandalism at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, the sit-in by resident doctors at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh entered its sixth day today.
