Eminent Punjabi scholar Dr. Rattan Singh Jaggi receives Padma Shri from President Droupadi Murmu
Chandigarh: Ratan Singh Jaggi is a distinguished scholar of Punjabi and Hindi literature, especially Gurmati literature, conferred with Padma Shri by the President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday. He has devoted more than 70 years of his life to the service of Punjabi-Hindi literature and Gurmati literature.
In 1962, he obtained a PhD degree in the subject ‘Mythological Study of Dasam Granth’ from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
After this, a book titled ‘Mythological Background of Dasham Granth’ was dedicated to the service of the people. The first prize was also given by the Department of Languages, Punjab. It was highly praised by many famous personalities of the literary world.
In the year 2000, ‘Commentary of Dasam Granth’ was prepared by Dr. Jaggi regarding Dasam granth. It was released in five parts by Gobind Sadan, Delhi. He is considered as an expert on the subject of “Dasham Granth”. In 1973, Dr. Ratan Singh Jaggi completed his ph.D. from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya (Bihar).
