Farmer dies by suicide at Haryana-Punjab border amid ongoing agitation
Chandigarh: A 55-year-old farmer, Resham Singh, allegedly ended his life by consuming sulfa during the farmers’ protest at the Shambhu border between Haryana and Punjab on Thursday.
Singh, a resident of Pahuwind village in Tarn Taran district, reportedly consumed the poison near a langar site in the morning. He was rushed to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala but succumbed to his injuries.
Farmer leader Tejbir Singh said that despite an 11-month-long protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders, Resham Singh was distressed over the government’s failure to resolve their demands.
