Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s fast enters 42nd day; condition critical
Khanauri: Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s indefinite fast at the Khanauri border continued for the 42nd consecutive day on Monday, with doctors warning of his deteriorating health.
According to a medical bulletin issued on Sunday, Dallewal is in critical condition, experiencing persistent vomiting and difficulties in speaking. He is suffering from severe issues with his liver, kidneys, and lungs. Doctors have expressed concerns that even if he ends his fast, his organs may not fully recover.
Meanwhile, a high-level committee formed by the Supreme Court to address farmers’ issues is scheduled to visit Khanauri on Monday. Headed by retired high court judge Justice Nawab Singh, the panel includes former DGP B S Sandhu, economist R S Ghuman, agriculture expert Davinder Sharma, and Punjab Farmers Commission chairperson Sukhpal Singh. The committee is expected to meet Dallewal at 3 pm and listen to farmers’ grievances.
However, Dallewal has so far refused to engage with the panel. Earlier, a meeting held in Chandigarh was attended only by second-tier leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.
