Farmers demand resolution in Punjab assembly, warn against forcible land acquisition
Chandigarh: Sarwan Singh Pandher, state leader of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, has urged the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to pass a resolution supporting 12 key demands of farmers and send it to the Central government. He also called for the assembly session to be extended to discuss public issues.
Addressing a press conference, Pandher warned against the forced acquisition of farmland under the Bharat Mala project, stating that if farmers do not receive a fair price, they will launch protests against the Punjab government.
He alleged that government representatives attempted to take over farmland in Gurdaspur district, which was met with strong opposition.
Meanwhile, the jatha of 101 farmer activists, initially set to march from Shambhu border to Delhi on February 25, has been postponed to March 25, when they will proceed on foot.
Pandher also demanded strict laws against travel agents who illegally send youth abroad, urging the Punjab government to address the issue in the ongoing assembly session.
