Farmers fortify security around Dallewal as thousands gather at Khanauri border
Chandigarh: Farmers have tightened the security perimeter around Dallewal amid fears of a forced intervention to remove Jagjit Singh Dallewal, the state president of Kisan Union Sidhupur.
The 70-year-old farmer leader has been on a hunger strike for the past 35 days at the Dhabi Gujjaran border near Khanauri.
The Supreme Court has ordered Dallewal to be shifted, prompting the Punjab government to make extensive preparations near the protest site.
Police forces have deployed water cannons, anti-riot vehicles, fire brigade units, and ambulances near Patran, a short distance from the protest. Reports indicate that around 5,000 police personnel have been put on high alert.
Sources suggest a potential raid on the protest site was planned for Monday night or early Tuesday morning.
However, police have reportedly decided against immediate action following consultations. Meanwhile, farmer leaders have intensified their agitation, with thousands of supporters arriving at the Khanauri border in solidarity.
