Farmers protest outside Punjab ministers’ houses, demand MSP law

Chandigarh: Farmers under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), who were stopped from marching to Chandigarh on March 5, staged protests outside the residences of ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs and ministers across Punjab on Monday.

The demonstrations, planned in advance, were scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In Jalandhar, SKM leaders gathered outside the house of minister Mohinder Bhagat, while in Mohali, farmers protested near the residence of MLA Kulwant Singh. Security in these areas was tightened by the police.

The decision to hold these protests was taken in a meeting in Ludhiana. Sarwan Singh Pandher, leader of SKM and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, highlighted that it had been 390 days since the Shambhu Morcha began.

He urged the ruling party and the opposition to discuss the issue of minimum support price (MSP) in Parliament, which resumed its Budget session on Monday.

Pandher also demanded a legal guarantee for MSP, debt relief for farmers, and attention to other pending issues. He criticized the wall built at the Shambhu border, stating that it had negatively impacted the economies of Punjab and Haryana.
