Farmers protest: Punjab-Haryana borders sealed, commuters harried
Chandigarh: The Haryana Police has sealed all borders with Punjab in view of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ programme on February 13 by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and the Kisan-Mazdoor Morcha to address the farmers’ demands and other issues related to the central government.
The Haryana Police has completely stopped traffic on the national highway leading to Delhi from Shambhu Barrier by placing huge stones and laying nails on the road, bringing traffic to a standstill in the cities along the border.
On the other hand, even though the police are trying to pass people through alternative routes, people have to suffer for several hours. Haryana Police’s ADGP (Law and Order) Mamta Singh said the roads have been blocked by holding farmers’ programmes. He said that due to the closure of National Highway No. 44 Delhi-Chandigarh Highway, people are facing problems, so those going to Delhi from Chandigarh can reach Delhi via Derabassi, Barwala, Ramgarh, Saha, Shahabad and Kurukshetra.
A senior Haryana police officer said that people can reach Chandigarh only through these routes. On the other hand, the road from Rajpura Gagan Chowk has been closed for the people going from Rajpura to Ambala, so the route has been prepared from Gagan Chowk of Rajpura to Ambala via Banur, Derabassi, Lalru.
