Farmers stage tractor march in support of ongoing protests, effigies burnt

Chandigarh: In a show of solidarity with the ongoing farmers’ protests at Shambhu and Dhabai Gujra/Khanauri borders between Punjab and Haryana, farmers gathered at the grain market in Ambala city, Haryana, on Monday. The protest, held in the home district of Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, included a tractor march to push for their demands.

Protesters also burned effigies of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ram Chandra Jangra and Chief Minister Saini during the demonstration. The actions were part of a nationwide protest call issued by the leaders of the farmers’ movement.

The agitating organizations had recently urged farmers to hold tractor marches and protests at district and tehsil headquarters across the country, excluding Punjab. Reports suggest similar marches were carried out in several other parts of Haryana in response to the call.

The protests coincide with a death fast by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, further intensifying the agitation.
