Farmers to march towards Punjab Assembly on Monday
Chandigarh: Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union have started a five-day ‘Krishi Niti Morcha’ at Dashera Ground in Sector 34, Chandigarh from today to press for their demands, including formulation of a labourer, farmer and environment-friendly agriculture policy and other demands.
The kisan-khet mazdoor unions have announced to march to the Vidhan Sabha on the first day of the monsoon session of the Punjab Assembly on Monday.
Chandigarh Police officials also held a meeting with farmer leaders today to cancel tomorrow’s protest march, which remained inconclusive and the farmers remained firm on their decision to march towards the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
On the first day of the morcha, large convoys of youth, elderly and women from all over Punjab have reached Chandigarh, raising their voice against the Punjab government. The farmers’ organisations have also brought ration, water and other items for the five-day march.
