Fifth round of talks between central government and farmers ends without resolution

Chandigarh: The fifth round of talks between the central government and a delegation of agitating farmers concluded without a resolution in Chandigarh on Friday.

The meeting, which lasted about three and a half hours, was attended by 28 farmer leaders. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi expressed concern over the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

After the meeting, Dallewal described the discussions as positive and confirmed that the next round of talks would be held on February 22, with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also set to participate.

Joshi said, “We had a meeting with farmer leaders in a good atmosphere. We heard all their demands and informed them about the decisions taken in the budget for farmers.”

Farmers have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders of Haryana-Punjab since February 13, 2024, demanding legislation guaranteeing minimum support prices (MSP) on crops, among other issues.
