Five family members killed as house roof collapses in Tarn Taran

Chandigarh: Five members of a family, including a husband, wife, and their three children, were killed after the roof of their house collapsed in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Saturday, police said. The family was asleep when the incident occurred.

Residents of the area pulled them from the rubble and rushed them to the hospital, but doctors declared them dead. Locals attributed the collapse to recent heavy rains and demanded compensation from the administration.

Police from Sadar police station and district administration officials reached the site. Authorities said necessary action would be taken if the family’s relatives submitted an application.

The exact cause is yet to be confirmed, but preliminary investigations suggest that a girder supporting the roof may have slipped, leading to the collapse.

The structure had reportedly weakened due to rain, and the house was already in a dilapidated condition. Heavy objects stored on the roof may have added to the strain, resulting in the accident.
