Former CM Channi embroiled in controversy over reference to pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal in Parliament

Chandigarh: Punjab’s Jalandhar Lok Sabha MP and former state chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been under fire for his statement in the Lok Sabha in support of pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh.

On the issue of imposing the National Security Act (NSA) on Amritpal, it was the Congress that distanced itself from Channi. The Punjab Congress has also termed it as Channi’s personal view.

After which MP Channi himself has also taken silence on this statement. This is not the first case of Channi getting embroiled in controversy.

From being a minister to becoming the Chief Minister in the Congress government of Punjab, he was surrounded by many controversies, which includes elephant riding to become CM, from the MeeToo case related to female IAS officer and the PM’s security lapse when he was CM. However, Channi continued to get full support from the Congress in every controversy.
