Former Indian Badminton Team Coach Gaurav Malhan to Train Jalandhar Players
Jalandhar News: Former Indian Badminton Team coach Gaurav Malhan has joined the District Badminton Association (DBA) Jalandhar and will be training players at the Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium. Malhan, who coached the Indian team during the Thomas Cup 2020, has also served as a senior coach at the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad and was the head coach of Egypt’s national team. A certified NIS and BWF coach, he brings vast international experience to his new role.
DBA Member Secretary Ritin Khanna expressed gratitude to Olympian Dipankar Bhattacharjee for facilitating Malhan’s move to Jalandhar. He highlighted that having a national-level coach train local players is a significant milestone for the city. A special summer training camp will soon be organized under his guidance, Khanna announced, emphasizing that Malhan’s expertise will help shape the careers of aspiring badminton players.
Khanna also shed light on the challenges faced by North Indian badminton players, who often travel to South India for professional training. This shift imposes financial burdens and logistical difficulties related to food, studies, and accommodation. Establishing a high-quality coaching center in Jalandhar will greatly benefit regional players, he added.
Upon his arrival, Gaurav Malhan praised the infrastructure at Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium and assured his full support to DBA in developing young talent.
Notably, around 150 to 200 players of various age groups are currently training at Olympian Dipankar Bhattacharjee’s Badminton Academy, based at Hansraj Stadium. Over the last four years, the academy has successfully produced several national-level players.
