Former Punjab minister Sohan Thandal quits Akali Dal, likely to join BJP
Chandigarh: Sohan Singh Thandal, former Punjab minister and MLA, has officially parted ways with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), further deepening the party’s troubles amid ongoing by-election tensions. Thandal’s exit has intensified political discussions in Punjab, particularly with his imminent move to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
A special programme has been scheduled in Hoshiarpur, where Thandal is expected to formally join the BJP. The event, held at a private hotel, will see the presence of BJP Punjab in-charge and former Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani.
This shift comes at a critical time for the BJP, which has yet to announce its candidate for the Chabbewal constituency in Hoshiarpur.
It is speculated that Thandal’s induction into the party may coincide with the declaration of the BJP’s candidate for the seat.
