Four arrested in Jalandhar including aide of Pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh
Jalandhar: The commissionerate police have arrested four individuals, including Gurbhej Singh, the chief of Waris Punjab De and the personal gunman of pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh from Sri Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat.
The arrests were made in connection with illegal arms possession, drug trafficking, extortion, and other charges.
Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma stated that the group was part of an active racket in Punjab with plans to disrupt law and order in the state.
The accused, identified as Lakhwinder Singh from Haibowal village (Garhshankar), Gurbhej Singh from Gudara village (Ferozepur), Satinder Singh alias Kala, Hardev Singh from Palahi village (Hoshiarpur), and Bharat alias Bhau Patti from Tarn Taran, are now in custody.
Gurbhej Singh has been sent to jail, while the other suspects will soon be presented in court and taken on remand.
According to Sharma, Lakhwinder Singh and Harshdeep Singh operated a significant network of drugs and arms distribution in Punjab. They were reportedly in regular contact with Gurbhej Singh, a close associate of Amritpal Singh.
Gurbhej had previously been detained in Kapurthala jail in relation to the Amritpal case and the Ajnala police station attack, where he allegedly connected with Lakhwinder Singh, a prisoner held on murder charges.
The police have registered a case against the accused under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Navi Baradari police station.
Recovered items include 10 cartridges of 12 bore, eight cartridges of 315 bore, and 100 grams of heroin.
