Four family members killed in road accident near Amritsar after seeing off grandson at airport
Chandigarh: Four members of a family lost their lives in a tragic road accident near Amritsar on Friday, shortly after they had seen off a family member at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport.
According to reports, Gurdev Singh, son of Jagir Singh, a resident of Amritsar, was returning home with his family after boarding his grandson on a flight abroad. When their Verna car reached near Dhapaia Jeevan Pandher village on the Mehta-Amritsar GT Road, it collided head-on with a tipper coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the collision was so intense that the tipper overturned. The driver of the tipper fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Local residents rushed to the spot and managed to pull out the bodies from the severely damaged car after considerable effort. All four occupants of the car, belonging to the same family, died on the spot.
Police have launched an investigation and efforts are on to trace the absconding tipper driver.
