Four police officers sentenced to five years in Moga sex scandal case

Chandigarh: A special CBI court in Mohali on Monday sentenced four former police officers, including the then Moga SSP Davinder Singh Garcha and SP (H) Paramdeep Singh Sandhu, to five years imprisonment in connection with the Moga sex scandal case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on each of them.

The other two convicted are former SHOs of Moga City Police Station, Raman Kumar and Inspector Amarjit Singh. All four were found guilty of corruption and extortion.

Barjinder Singh alias Makhan Brar and Sukhraj Singh, sons of former Akali minister Jathedar Tota Singh, had been acquitted of all charges earlier, while one of the accused, Manjit Kaur, died during the course of the trial.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered the case on December 11, 2007, following directions from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
