Friction in Akali Dal: ‘Party fails to live up to principles,’ says former MLA Wadala
Chandigarh: The ongoing feud in Punjab’s regional party Shiromani Akali Dal shows no signs of stopping. On Thursday, Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal announced his support for the BSP in the bypolls.
Today, Akali leader Bibi Jagir Kaur and former MLA Gurpartap Singh Wadala have openly criticized their own party chief.
“Our party has not been able to live up to its own principles,” Wadala said, adding that the party has suffered significantly under Badal’s leadership. He stressed the urgent need for change within the party. Wadala also said that the party brought the party logo from Chandigarh two days before announcing the candidate, suggesting that the party was aware of the candidate well in advance.
Contrary to some beliefs, Wadala said, “Our meetings are ongoing, and no Sikh has said that they will not vote.” He has appealed to people to vote for the Akali Dal candidate Surjit Kaur.
