Gangster injured in police encounter near Jalandhar; two accomplices arrested
Jalandhar: A police encounter with associates of gangster Vicky Gounder occurred near Jamsher Khera village under the Sadar police station in Jalandhar on Sunday morning.
The incident, which took place at approximately 10:10 am, resulted in one gangster being injured and two accomplices arrested.
The injured gangster has been identified as Harpreet Singh, a resident of Jamsher Khas. Police revealed that the special cell team had taken Harpreet to recover illegal weapons when the confrontation occurred. A total of eight bullets were exchanged between the two sides.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma and other senior officials rushed to the spot for an investigation.
ACP Paramjit Singh said that Harpreet Singh, who already faces 15 FIRs, fired at the police when he reached the scene with loaded weapons. In response, police fired back, injuring him in the leg. Two other members of his gang were also apprehended.
Four illegal weapons and 100 grams of heroin were recovered from the accused. Police have added charges of attacking law enforcement to Harpreet Singh’s record. Investigations have revealed that the accused intended to target members of a rival gang using the recovered weapons.
Further interrogation is underway to uncover details of other potential crimes linked to the gang.
