‘Giani Harpreet Singh convicted in conspiracy case’: Human rights body
Chandigarh: The Punjab Human Rights Organisation has submitted an inquiry report to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president, calling for a deeper investigation into allegations against former Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh. The report alleges that Singh was convicted under conspiracy and recommends a judicial probe.
The report was prepared by chief investigators Sarabjit Singh Verka, Channan Singh, and Tajinder Singh, and was sent to the SGPC president by advocate Rajwinder Singh Bains. According to the report, an appeal for the investigation was made by an SGPC internal committee member along with four others.
The organisation’s investigation found that records from the police, court, and SGPC had been overlooked. It also raised concerns over what it described as “character assassination” of the former jathedar on social media.
Chief investigator Verka said the allegations were made by one of Singh’s relatives, Gurpreet Singh. Copies of relevant documents from the SGPC, police, and court, as well as a summary of the SGPC’s internal inquiry report, were obtained for review.
