Government buses to halt in Punjab for three days amid employee protest
Chandigarh: Government bus services across Punjab will remain suspended for three days, from January 6 to 8, as announced by the PRTC and Punbus Employees Union. Commuters have been advised to plan their travel accordingly.
The decision follows an inconclusive meeting between the unions and Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, during which demands for regularising contractual and temporary employees were discussed.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, the unions have called for the bus shutdown and plan to stage protests outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh on January 7 and 8.
Transport Minister Bhullar, addressing the issue, stated that while the government has listened to the employees’ concerns, it cannot legally grant permanent status to them. He criticised the strike, saying it causes inconvenience to the public.
