Governor directs to expedite damage assessment due to floods

Jalandhar: Expressing immense satisfaction over the efforts put in by District Administration to ensure safe evacuation ans helping out stranded families in flood hit areas, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit directed to speed up damage assessment so as to initiate compensation process as soon as possible.

Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit held meeting with officials to know about the current situation besides visiting Gidderpindi bridge to meet people. He said the officials informed that the survey was being carried out by different department, which would be accomplished within next 15 days thus preparing report of damage due to floods. On the basis of field reports, due compensation will be provided to the affected families, informed the officials. The Governor also appreciated the District Administration for their meticulous relief and rescue operations resulting in saving people stuck in flood hit areas. He said that the Civil and Police administration in association with Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF and people from across the other areas too made commendable work in this tough time.

After visiting the flood affected area, the Governor while answering a query that paddy sapling were being sown which would be given to farmer so they could sow the same in their respective fields. He said that fields at large area submerged due to breach in Satluj and the assessment process would take time of few more days to get completed.

Accompanied by Principal Secretary Water Resources Krishan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, SSP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar and other officials, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit also interacted with the people at Gidderpindi. He assured them that the concerned department were contemplating to make permanent solution of flood fury often takes place after a gap of few years. The officials informed that they would soon initiate the process in this regard resulting in protection of people from floods due to heavy downpour and breaches in Dhussi bandh. He said the second breach would also be plugged as the ongoing works of administration, people of the areas were immensely satisfied. He also assured that all possible help would be ensured to give relief to the affected families.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary Krishan Kumar apprised the Governor about the steps being taken to ensure the seamless flow in Satluj river.
