Governor returns 10 bills, assembly passes all again
Chandigarh News: The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Saturday re-passed all the 10 bills recently returned by the Governor.
The Governor had returned the bills pertaining to various departments, including law, agriculture and higher education, on November 13, following which the House re-passed the bills during a special meeting of the Assembly.
The main opposition AIADMK and the BJP walked out of the House. Earlier, Chief Minister M K Stalin moved a resolution in the Assembly to reconsider 10 bills passed earlier and returned by Governor Ravi.
While moving the resolution, Stalin said Ravi had returned the bills without assigning any reason. The House had approved two bills each in 2020 and 2023, while six other bills were passed last year.
Stalin said the House noted that under the provisions of Article 200 of the Constitution of India, he cannot withhold his assent if the above bills are passed again and submitted for the governor’s assent.
