Govt will ensure safe return of Punjabis stranded in Jammu and Kashmir: CM Mann

Chandigarh: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday held a meeting with senior police and administrative officials to review the state’s security in the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Mann directed authorities to further tighten security arrangements across Punjab and said he was in constant contact with the Jammu and Kashmir government to ensure the safe return of Punjabis stranded in the region.

“Terrorists often attempt to vitiate the atmosphere of the state and the country by infiltrating through the Punjab border,” he said, adding that the state would develop an anti-drone system to safeguard the border areas.

The Chief Minister said the Punjab Police, in coordination with the BSF and the Indian Army, was conducting continuous patrolling in Pathankot and other border areas. Coordination with central investigating agencies was also underway to bolster security.

He added that the safety of students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in Punjab colleges and universities was being ensured.
