Grenade attack on Former Zila Parishad Chairman’s house in Amritsar
Chandigarh: Three motorcycle-borne men hurled a grenade at the house of late Rajinder Kumar, also known as Pappu Jayantipuria, a former zila parishad chairman, in Amritsar on Wednesday night.
Kumar, who was close to Akali leader Bikram Majithia, had family members attending an event in Batala when the incident occurred. The grenade landed in the verandah, causing no injuries.
Gangster-turned-terrorist Happy Pashia claimed responsibility for the attack, which took place around 7:50 pm. Senior police officials rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. CCTV footage of the suspects has emerged and is being analyzed.
Amritsar SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal clarified that the explosive material was not RDX, as some reports suggested. “Forensic examination will confirm the nature of the material,” he said. The low-intensity blast caused minor damage to plants in the verandah.
Police have initiated a manhunt to trace the suspects. The incident marks the sixth such attack in Amritsar over the past six weeks.
