Gulab Chand Kataria appointed as new Governor of Punjab
Chandigarh: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria will be the new Governor of Punjab. Kataria is a senior Rajasthan BJP leader and will replace Banwarilal Purohit.
Purohit had resigned from the post on February 3, which has been accepted by President Droupadi Murmu. In some new appointments and reshuffles made late Saturday night, President Murmu appointed six new governors and transferred three.
Former Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Haribhau Kishanrao Bagde has been appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan while former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Deb Verma has been appointed as the Governor of Telangana. Former Rajya Sabha member Om Prakash Mathur has been appointed as the Governor of Sikkim, former Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar as the Governor of Jharkhand, former Lok Sabha member from Assam Raman Deka as the Governor of Chhattisgarh, former minister in the Karnataka government CH Vijayashankar as the Governor of Meghalaya.
