Harjinder Singh Dhami refuses to withdraw resignation his resignation as SGPC chief

Amritsar: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has refused to withdraw his resignation as president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). He held an informal meeting with Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.

The SGPC’s internal committee is set to discuss his resignation on March 7. In the previous meeting, the matter was postponed.

After the nearly hour-long meeting at Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh’s residence, Dhami told reporters that he had come to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib and met the Jathedar informally. Asked about his resignation, he reiterated that he would not withdraw it.

“If the in-house committee does not accept the resignation, then we will think after that, but one thing is certain—I will not withdraw it,” he said.

On the ongoing controversy over recruitment within the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Dhami said it was for the party’s Working Committee to address the issue.
