Harjinder Singh Dhami to resume role as SGPC president after closed-door meeting with Sukhbir Badal

Amritsar: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami has agreed to withdraw his resignation and will resume his role within the next three to four days.

Dhami announced his decision after a closed-door meeting with former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal at his residence.

Earlier, the SGPC’s internal committee had rejected Dhami’s resignation during a meeting in Chandigarh on Monday. The committee had also decided to visit his residence in Hoshiarpur to persuade him to continue.

Addressing the media, Dhami said he reconsidered his decision at the request of the entire Akali leadership and the committee’s rejection of his resignation.

Earlier in the day, Sukhbir Badal, accompanied by SAD working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder, visited Dhami’s residence to convince him. Dhami welcomed them, embraced Badal, and took them inside. Badal did not speak to the media and went straight into the meeting with Dhami.
