Harjinder Singh Dhami’s resignation put on hold, internal committee urges reconsideration

Amritsar: The resignation of Harjinder Singh Dhami has not been accepted for now, as he is set to meet a delegation from the internal committee to reconsider his decision.

The committee clarified that the decision regarding Giani Harpreet Singh was not made by Dhami alone but was a collective decision. The internal committee has urged him to continue his services.

Speaking to the media, SGPC Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mann cited the 1925 Act, stating that the body has the authority to remove Giani Harpreet Singh as jathedar of Sri Damdama Sahib. He added that he would soon meet with the jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding the matter.

The internal committee also confirmed that a meeting with President Dhami will be held soon to persuade him to reconsider his resignation. Additionally, a review meeting on the functioning of the SGPC will be convened in the coming days.
