HC summons Chief Secretary over gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s jail interview
Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday addressed the controversial jail interview of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. During the hearing, the court summoned the Chief Secretary of Punjab and scheduled the next session for Friday morning.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the matter, informed the court that their investigation is ongoing and is expected to conclude by the first week of October.
The court raised concerns about the lack of jammers in jails, a crucial issue in this case. In response, the government’s lawyer explained that there is a formal process for installing jammers, involving tenders and other necessary formalities.
Following this, the court instructed the Chief Secretary to appear before it via video conference within 30 minutes. However, the Chief Secretary was unable to attend due to a prior engagement with farmers. The hearing was then rescheduled for Friday morning.
Lawrence Bishnoi’s interview, first broadcast on March 14, made headlines when he confessed to the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala.
Bishnoi claimed Moosewala was involved in the gang war and had a role in the killing of his college friend, Akali leader Vicky Middukhera. According to the SIT report, this interview was conducted while Bishnoi was in CIA custody.
