Heat wave alert issued in Punjab on 16 and 17; advisory issued
Chandigarh: The weather forecast for Punjab indicates dry conditions in the coming days, prompting a heat wave alert for May 16 and 17. The state’s department anticipates a potential increase in temperatures by up to four degrees during this period, prompting a yellow alert.
Temperatures are expected to range from 44-46 degrees Celsius in some areas and 41-44 degrees Celsius in others, leading to advisories for heat wave precautions. Residents are urged to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated, wear light-colored loose clothing, and use head coverings such as caps or umbrellas.
The department warns that the dry weather is likely to persist for 4-5 days, exacerbating the heat, particularly posing risks to children, the elderly, and those with health conditions.

This marks a decrease of 0.5 degrees from the previous average maximum temperature.
