High court stays arrest of Partap Singh Bajwa till April 22 over bomb remark

Chandigarh: Senior Punjab Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, has received interim relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which stayed his arrest till April 22 in connection with his controversial bomb-laden statement.

The court also issued a notice to the Punjab government, directing it to submit a reply by April 22. Additionally, the court restrained Bajwa from making any further statements to the media regarding the matter.

Bajwa had approached the court seeking the quashing of an FIR registered against him at the Mohali cyber police station on April 13. He termed the case as politically motivated.

Reacting to the development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said Bajwa must disclose the source of his information about the alleged bombs, warning that failure to do so would invite legal action. He added that opposition MLAs should refrain from indulging in politics that creates fear among the public.
