High-tech vegetable centers in Punjab a boon for farmers, says CM Mann

Punjab E News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has launched several initiatives to improve the lives and incomes of farmers across the state, focusing on both traditional and landless farmers. His administration’s programs, designed to support all types of farmers, aim to promote sustainable agriculture and horticulture, as well as encourage alternative income-generating activities.

In a notable effort, the Punjab government has established high-tech vegetable centers in Moga and Kartarpur (Jalgarh), aimed at enhancing vegetable productivity and quality through the latest agricultural technologies. These centers, covering approximately 15 acres, are unique in the state and do not employ Israeli technology, instead utilizing advanced local solutions.

The Center of Excellence for Vegetables in Kartarpur is equipped with a multi-grading and sorting line, a hydrogen unit, and a plant health clinic, all aimed at encouraging modern vegetable farming. This facility emphasizes soil-free methods of vegetable cultivation, allowing farmers to grow nutritious greens using state-of-the-art techniques.

In Moga, a high-tech nursery center covering six acres has been set up under the horticulture department to simplify vegetable farming and boost farmers’ profits. This center provides various resources, including a dedicated one-acre unit for cultivating vegetable seedlings in a controlled environment. Here, seasonal plants like cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, eggplants, and pumpkins are grown without seeds, with seedlings prepared and supplied to farmers. Additionally, the center is equipped with a high-tech polyhouse and two naturally ventilated polyhouses, supporting controlled agriculture year-round.
