HSGMC elections to be held on Sunday
Chandigarh: The Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGMC) elections are set to take place on Sunday, with all preparations finalized by the State Election Commission.
Polling parties have departed for their assigned booths, covering 40 seats across 22 districts of Haryana. Approximately 4 lakh voters will decide the fate of 164 candidates contesting the elections.
Prominent Sikh leaders Baljit Singh Daduwal, Jagdish Singh Jhinda, Baldev Singh Kiyampuri, and Didar Singh Nalvi are key contenders in the race. Daduwal is contesting under the banner of Shiromani Akali Dal (Haryana) Azad, while Jhinda represents Panthic Dal (Jhinda). Kiyampuri leads the Haryana Sikh Panthic Dal, and Nalvi’s team is contesting under Sikh Samaj Sangathan.
The elected members will choose the president, general secretary, and other office-bearers of the HSGMC. Additionally, nine members will be nominated, including representatives from backward classes (BC), scheduled castes (SC), women, and general categories.
The newly elected body will manage 51 gurdwaras and oversee the functioning of social and medical institutions across the state.
