Indian deportees from US face economic ruin and mental distress

Chandigarh: The dreams of a better future have been shattered for a group of Indians deported from the United States on charges of illegal immigration.

Returning home yesterday, they not only suffered financial losses but are also dealing with severe mental distress. Calls are now growing for government intervention to support their rehabilitation, including financial assistance and job opportunities.

Among those affected is Lovepreet Kaur, a resident of Bhadas village, who had left for Dubai on January 2 with her minor son, Prabhjot, hoping to reunite with her husband in the US. She entered the US from Mexico on January 25 after traveling through Moscow and several Latin American countries.

However, she was apprehended by US authorities and, without a hearing, was deported to India in handcuffs and leg restraints.
