Jalandhar Literary Forum submits memorandum to revive historic municipal library

Jalandhar News: Mayor Vaneet Dhir has promised to revive the historic Jalandhar Municipal Library, which was dismantled during the renovation of the municipal building. The assurance came after a delegation from the Jalandhar Literary Forum met the Mayor and submitted a memorandum seeking the re-establishment of the library.

The delegation was led by Forum Convener Advocate Navjot Singh, and included Co-Convener and Jagda Punjab Co-Convener Rakesh Shantidoot, Secretary Advocate Suteekshan Samrol, District Bar Association Senior Vice President Advocate Ram Chhabra, industrialist Vineet Oberoi, and other prominent members such as Davinder Sharma, Pramod Parashar, Anju Bala, Manjubala, Satpreet Kaur Panesar, J P Singh, Rohan Batra, V K Khanna and Amarinder Singh Thind.

The Mayor, after going through the memorandum, immediately directed Corporation Superintendent Walia to initiate the process and announced the formation of a committee to explore temporary arrangements.

He further informed the delegation that the Municipal Corporation is set to construct a new Town Hall in the coming months, where the library will be re-established with modern infrastructure and will house rare and ancient books.

During the meeting, the members of the Literary Forum presented a set of books by internationally renowned author Paulo Coelho to Mayor Vaneet Dhir as a token of appreciation. Coelho’s books, including The Alchemist, are celebrated globally for their spiritual depth and have been translated into numerous languages.

Advocate Navjot Singh said that the importance of reading and the cultural value of the library, expressing hope that the administration would act promptly on the matter.
