Jalandhar tehsildars end strike after CM Mann’s intervention
Chandigarh: Tehsildars in Jalandhar, Punjab, returned to work after District Commissioner (DC) Himanshu Agarwal issued orders placing registration work under the supervision of Punjab Civil Services (PCS) officers.
The directive came after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann called for action against the mass leave of District Revenue Officers.
By 5 pm, all striking tehsildars had resumed duty. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) cabinet minister Mohinder Bhagat, MLA Raman Arora, and DC Agarwal visited the tehsil office to assess the situation.
The DC invoked Section 12 of the Registration Act, 1908, to ensure the continuation of work, warning officers against disrupting services.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government announced that gazetted officers would handle Kanungo registries in place of tehsildars to manage the strike’s impact.
