Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj stopped from giving siropa at Bhai Mahal Singh Babbar’s bhog

Amritsar: The bhog ceremony of Bhai Mahal Singh Babbar, the leader of the Babbar Khalsa International Organization, was held at the Sri Darbar Sahib complex on Friday. However, acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, was stopped from presenting a siropa during the event.

This marks the first time since his appointment that Jathedar Gargaj has been prevented from performing any action in his official capacity.

The Akhand Kirtani Jatha, in collaboration with the SGPC, had organized an Akhand Path at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbaksh Singh in the Sri Darbar Sahib complex, which concluded in the morning.

The ceremony was attended by Jathedar Gargaj, SGPC Secretary Partap Singh, Sri Harmandir Sahib’s managing director, members of Akhand Kirtani Jatha, and the family of Bhai Mahal Singh Babbar.

However, after the ardas, when Jathedar Gargaj attempted to present a siropa to Bibi Gurmeet Kaur, wife of Bhai Mahal Singh Babbar, Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Sakhira objected. As a result, the siropas were instead distributed by Bhai Baljit Singh, a granthi at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Bhai Mahal Singh Babbar, who was the general secretary of Babbar Khalsa International and the brother of Sukhdev Singh Babbar, had been living in exile in Pakistan for a long time. He passed away recently at Sri Nankana Sahib. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.

His family members, along with a large number of Sikh organization representatives, attended the ceremony.

Meanwhile, reports of tension among Sikh representatives following the event have surfaced. However, the in-charge of the Sri Akal Takht Secretariat dismissed these claims, calling them baseless.
