Chandigarh: The Punjab Police has registered a case of alleged rape and murder against Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale, a prominent Sikh preacher, in connection with an incident that reportedly took place over a decade ago.
The case resurfaced after the Patiala Police recently registered an FIR based on the statements of Sahib Singh, a resident of Kaithal.
According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, an affidavit filed with the Punjab and Haryana High Court confirms the registration of the FIR on December 7 at the Pasiyana police station in Patiala.
The case involves charges under Sections 302 (murder), 376 (rape), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
The allegations relate to the alleged rape and murder of a woman in Patiala in 2012. The police informed the High Court of the developments during a hearing on Wednesday.
