Liquor, meat consumption allegations at Amritsar’s Durgiana temple spark protests

Amritsar: A controversy has erupted in Amritsar after a video allegedly showing liquor and meat being consumed inside the Durgiana temple complex went viral on social media.

The incident reportedly took place late on Wednesday night, triggering protests from Hindu organizations.

The temple priest informed the police, following which officers reached the site and launched an investigation. The viral CCTV footage has been seized, and efforts are underway to identify those involved.

The temple management condemned the act, stating that bringing any unholy object inside the premises is strictly prohibited. “Such an act by the security guard of Sri Durgiana Temple is completely wrong,” the organizers said.

Investigating officer Rakesh Kumar confirmed that the police are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking with Hindu organizations.

“We received information that liquor had been consumed by the security guard at Durgiana Teerth. Talks are ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty,” he said.
