Man arrested for illegal weapons possession dies under suspicious circumstances

Amritsar: The death of Manjit Singh, who was detained by the Amritsar Rural Police for allegedly possessing illegal weapons, has raised suspicions after he was fatally shot inside a police vehicle near Gharinda police station.

According to police officials, Singh allegedly used his licensed firearm to commit suicide while in custody. However, his family has rejected this claim, accusing the police of staging a fake encounter and killing him.

The family has demanded the registration of a case against the police officers involved, calling for an impartial investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the police have denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that Singh’s death was self-inflicted.
