Multi-storey building collapses in Mohali’s Suhana village; several feared injured

Chandigarh: A multi-storey building in Suhana village, Mohali, collapsed this evening, trapping numerous people under the debris. Among the establishments housed in the building was a gym, where several youth were reportedly exercising at the time of the incident.

Police and rescue teams have arrived on the scene, and relief operations are underway. Villagers have also initiated their own efforts, but the extensive spread of the debris is hampering progress. According to a Mohali police official, at least 10 people are feared trapped, though local residents suggest the number could be significantly higher.

The building reportedly housed quarters for migrant families, alongside the Royal Gym. Two girls have been rescued so far, but one—a 20-year-old—succumbed to her injuries.

The Deputy Commissioner of Mohali confirmed that the Army has been called in to assist with rescue efforts. Forty Army personnel from Zirakpur are already on-site, with additional reinforcements expected to arrive soon.
